Admission to SSCT-CON
St. Scholastica’s College Tacloban-College of Nursing aims to provide quality education and form competent professionals, emphasizing the Benedictine values of discipline, truthfulness, and justice.
St. Scholastica’s College Tacloban – College of Nursing is an institution of higher learning operated by the Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing. It accepts application from individuals irrespective of race, color, sex, and religious affiliation, whose manner of acting, feeling and thinking are in agreement with the philosophy, mission, and vision of the institution; and whose capacities and abilities show the possibility of achieving a satisfactory scholastic record. Although church membership is not a prerequisite for admission, applicants are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the school regarding attendance to selected services.
To be eligible for admission to the SSCT-College of Nursing, an applicant must have finished high school (Grade 7 to Grade 12) and must give evidence of intellectual capacity to hurdle college education with a satisfactory health condition, good moral character, financial capability to pay for tuition and a desire to learn.
SSCT-College of Nursing practices open admission however an applicant must have a high school general average of at least 80%. In case the applicant’s general average in high school is below 80%, the new student is on scholastic probation for one semester with the expectation that at the end of one semester the overall GWA of the student is 2.2.
All applicants shall have to take the entrance examination and fulfill the requirements set by the Admission Committee of the College.
Transferees will be evaluated and get approval from the Dean-College of Nursing before they will be allowed to take the entrance Examination.
In selecting applicants for admission, the following will be reviewed:
- Grades received in previous academic work for Transferees
- Senior High School general average of 80 and above with no grades below 80 in Science, Math, and English is required.
- Entrance exam scores;
- Recommendation from the officials of the last school attended;
- Interviews, essay tests, and other supplementary credentials; and
- Certification of good moral character
In addition, applicants must:
- Possess a pleasing personality; and
- Be physically fit
The College of Nursing reserves the right to deny an application if the required process has not been met. Procedural Requirements
- Must apply to the Admission Section for the College of Nursing.
- Take the College Entrance Examination.
- Must pass the interview to be conducted by the Admissions Committee of the College of Nursing.
- Must submit the admission requirements.
The students are requested to bring their parents during enrolment for proper signing of related documents particularly during orientation.
Admission Requirements:
- Senior High School Report Card or Certified true copy of it, showing a GWA of 80, LRN and Strand
- Certificate of Good Moral Character
- Photocopy of NSO issued Birth Certificate (original)
- Three (3) pcs. 2×2 colored ID picture with name tag in white background
- 2 long white folders with a plastic cover
- 1 long brown envelope with plastic cover
- Completed Application Form
- Signed Consent Form of the Data Privacy Act
- Medical Examination Results and Report duly signed by the School Physician
Requirements for Transferees
- Photocopy of Transcript of Records/True Copy of Grades (with the general weighted average)
- Completed Application Form
- Birth certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority
- Two (2) Completed Recommendation Letter from the Dean and 1 Professor
- Three (3) 2x2 colored ID pictures with name tags in white background
- 2 long white folders with a plastic cover
- 1 long brown envelope with plastic cover
- Signed Consent Form of the Data Privacy Act
- Medical Examination Results and Report duly signed by the School Physician
Requirements for International Students
A foreign student who comes to the Philippines for the sole purpose of taking courses higher than high school should be at least 18 years of age, and must submit the following documents required by the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Foreign Affairs:
- An applicant must have an average grade/overall grade point average of C (2.50, 80-82%).
- An applicant must submit a certification of good moral character from the school last attended and 3 recommendation letters from the school (Dean, the School Registrar, and a Senior Professor),
- An applicant must pay an application fee of US $250.00, which is non-refundable, upon submission of the filled-out application form and admission requirements to the College.
- Financial/Security Deposit of US $2,000.00 which could be withdrawn upon finishing the program or leaving SSCT-CON permanently.
- An applicant must sign and submit a Foreign Student’s Pledge duly notarized. A form will be provided.
- An applicant must submit Medical Examination Results - Chest X-ray, HIV, Hepatitis-B clearance, Urinalysis, Stools/Parasitology, Malaria smear, and VDRL (for students from Africa, a vaccination certificate for Polio and Yellow Fever is required).
- An applicant is required to take the entrance tests in Mathematics, English, and Psychological tests to be administered by the SSCT Guidance Office. If an applicant failed in the English test, he/she will be advised to enroll in English as a Second Language course for one semester before he/she will be allowed to register in a regular class.
- One (1) copy of Student’s Personal History Statement (PHS form will be provided) duly signed by the applicant, left and right thumbprints and a 2x2 inch photograph on plain, white background taken not more than six months prior to submission;
- Transcript of Records/Scholastic Records, duly authenticated by the Philippine Foreign Service Post (PFSP)/Philippine Embassy located in the student applicant's country of origin or legal residence;
- A notarized Affidavit of Support including bank statements or notarized grant for institutional scholars, to cover expenses for the student’s accommodation and subsistence, as well as school dues and other incidental expenses;
- Photocopy of the student’s passport showing date and place of birth and birth certificate or its equivalent duly authenticated by the PFSP; and
- Police Clearance Certificate issued by the National Police Authorities in the student’s country of origin or residence duly authenticated by the Philippine Foreign Service Post having consular jurisdiction over the place. NBI clearance for applicants who graduated in the Philippines
